Welcome! My
name is Amy. I’m a twenty-something music teacher and aspiring writer. I blog about film because I have far too much time on my hands.
I’ve always
had a talent for getting overly enthusiastic about things, and the more obscure
the subject, the better. I love cinema, and love writing about it. And as a
wannabe author who’s prone to procrastinate, I thought that blog posts would be
easier than starting with a full length novel. It was a friend who suggested I
start a film blog in the first place, and another friend is still on my case to
write the novel. Hopefully I won’t disappoint either of them.
A year ago I
wasn't particularly interested in film, and starting a blog was the furthest thing
from my mind. I had just dropped out of university because a plethora of health
problems had caught up with me. Stuck in bed most of the time, the boredom was
crushing. But the one consistent bright spot was these old black and white
films I got to watching.
Every night I’d tuck myself in with a hand-knitted
blanket and a packet of sour gummy worms, and watch Cary Grant slip on an olive
and sit on his hat, Katharine Hepburn chase a leopard all over Connecticut, Claudette
Colbert teach Clark Gable how to hitchhike, and learned that Hitchcock always
shoots from above when somebody’s doom is sealed. After a while, of course, I
realised I was hooked, and pretty soon I had so much information and enthusiasm
crammed in my head that I needed to write to let it out. So here I am.
I post
something almost every day; most often it’s vintage photography, quotes, or a
film review. I also write about contemporary film and my other great love, Doctor Who,
and social issues or something completely random that takes my fancy. (This isn't a spoiler-free blog, so read wisely if you're still watching the show!)
You can like 24 Frames on Facebook to get new posts right away. You’re also welcome to
subscribe to my RSS feed to get updates whenever I post. Follow me on Twitter, too, by all means. A lot of the beautiful images I post here (and many more
besides) are on my growing Pinterest board.
If you’ve
never explored Old Hollywood before, click here to see film reviews, quotes, and photographs from vintage cinema. I hope you enjoy them.
I'm currently watching:
Broadchurch (expect lots of breathless speculation; I can't resist trying to solve a mystery before the final episode)
Classic Doctor Who (Tom Baker era)
